Chelsea captain Reece James missed the Club World Cup quarterfinal against Palmeiras due to injury. Prior to this match, James played in three out of four CWC matches, scoring in the round-of-16 game against Benfica. He has a history of hamstring injuries, missing 21 games in the 2024-25 season. Midfielder Andrey Santos replaced him in the starting lineup. The specific nature and severity of the injury were not immediately disclosed.
