In a San Diego Padres game against the New York Mets on July 28, 2025, right-hander Dylan Cease was struck in the head by a batted ball but stayed in the game. The incident occurred in the third inning. After being examined by trainers and coaching staff, Cease continued playing, striking out key batters like Juan Soto and Pete Alonso. At the time, the Mets led 1-0. Mets manager Carlos Mendoza was ejected for arguing.
