An important honor, the Samuel J. Heyman Service to America Medal, was awarded to Thuc Hoang for her work building El Capitan, the world's fastest supercomputer.The supercomputer, developed at the National Nuclear Security Administration, performs approximately 1.742 quintillion calculations per second. El Capitan's primary function is simulating nuclear weapon performance, a task crucial for national defense. The project began two decades ago, with El Capitan becoming operational in January.
