💨 Abstract
An Accomack County man, William Custis Smith, was sentenced for killing a bald eagle on his property in Hallwood. Smith admitted to using a banned neurotoxin and pole traps to kill raptors, aiming to protect ducks for hunting. Investigators found a poisoned juvenile bald eagle and footage of Smith killing a red-tailed hawk. Smith's penalties included a day in jail, community service, and nearly $10,000 in fines.
