💨 Abstract

The Occoquan Reservoir, serving a million people in Northern Virginia, has exceeded EPA limits for PFAS (forever chemicals) that pose health risks. Virginia Tech's Stanley Grant is leading a project to identify the sources of these contaminants, which come from industrial discharges, firefighting foams, and consumer products. The team utilizes advanced modeling to test potential solutions and assess costs. Results are expected by 2027, with implications for other water supplies nationwide.
