💨 Abstract

Hong Kong's pro-democracy and LGBTQ+ activist Jimmy Sham was released from prison after serving over four years for his role in a 2021 primary election, deemed a threat to the government. Sham's activism during the 2019 protests gained significant attention. Even in prison, Sham fought for LGBTQ+ rights, leading to a landmark decision recognizing foreign same-sex marriages. Released with three other activists, Sham expressed uncertainty about his future, acknowledging ongoing repression.
