On May 16, 2025, Japanese defense officials announced the recovery of a crew member's remains from a military aircraft crash earlier that week. The T-4 training plane, carrying two service members, crashed into a reservoir shortly after takeoff from Komaki Air Base. Japan has grounded all 196 of its T-4 aircraft for inspection following this accident, the latest in a series of military aviation mishaps.
