💨 Abstract

The Federal Supreme Court of Iraq resumed operations. Nine judges who resigned due to political interference and a controversy over judicial independence are back after the court’s president retired and a successor was appointed by presidential decree. The court recently faced backlash for dismissing Parliament Speaker Mohammed Al-Halbousi, disrupting various laws. It had calls for amendments regarding women’s rights, amnesty, land redistribution, and maritime navigation. Restoring an agreement with Kuwait remains contentious.
