💨 Abstract
Ecuador has extradited José Adolfo Macías Villamar, aka "Fito," the leader of the violent "Los Choneros" gang, to the United States. Macías was indicted in New York for importing thousands of pounds of cocaine and smuggling weapons. After escaping from prison, he was recaptured in June 2025 and extradited following U.S. guarantees of his rights.
