💨 Abstract
In El Salvador, President Nayib Bukele's party proposed constitutional changes to permit indefinite presidential reelection and extend terms to six years. The proposal also aims to eliminate the second round of elections. The ruling party, which has a supermajority, could easily approve these changes. Bukele, known for his tough stance on gangs, remains popular despite controversies involving negotiations with gangs and the suspension of constitutional rights.
