💨 Abstract
France's highest court may strip former Syrian leader Bashar Assad of head of state immunity over chemical weapons accusations. If the Cour de Cassation rules against Assad, it could allow his trial in absentia for attacks in Ghouta (2013) and Douma (2018). This ruling could set a precedent for prosecuting other leaders linked to atrocities. Assad denies involvement in the attacks and has not retained lawyers.
