💨 Abstract
A schoolboy discovered a wooden ship's ribs on a remote Scottish beach in February 2024. Researchers identified it as the Earl of Chatham, an 18th-century warship that fought in the American War of Independence and later hunted whales in the Arctic. The ship was preserved and plans are to display it. The community's involvement was crucial in uncovering and protecting the wreck. This discovery highlights the maritime past and could become more common due to climate change.
