💨 Abstract

Mali's military leaders announced the arrest of several military personnel and civilians, including two generals and a suspected French agent, for allegedly plotting to destabilize the country. This move follows a crackdown on dissent after May's pro-democracy rally. Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger have been battling insurgencies linked to al-Qaida and the Islamic State. Recently, Mali extended military leader Gen. Assimi Goita's rule for five more years amid rising extremist attacks.
