US announces sanctions against armed group and companies profiting from conflict minerals in Congo -

The U.S. government sanctioned the CODECO armed group and associated companies for illicit mineral trading and human rights abuses in eastern Congo’s Rubaya mining site.CODECO, which controlled Rubaya from 2022 to early 2024, is accused of illegal mineral operations and atrocities. The U.S. also sanctioned a Congolese mining company and two Hong Kong exporters involved in the illegal trade. The sanctions aim to support peace efforts, ensure U.S.
