💨 Abstract

Pakistan's deputy prime minister, Ishaq Dar, accused India of "weaponizing water" by releasing water from dams without warning, violating the World Bank-brokered Indus Water Treaty. Dar claimed this threatens Pakistan's agricultural cycle, livelihoods, and food security. He cited previous incidents that exacerbated flooding in Pakistan and noted that India has suspended sharing crucial hydrological data. Pakistan has informed the U.N. and warned that diverting water could be considered an act of war.
