💨 Abstract

Alaska, known for its cold climate, has issued its first-ever heat warning. Fairbanks is expected to reach temperatures over 29°C (85°F) this weekend. The National Weather Service now uses heat warnings instead of special weather statements to better communicate the potential danger of high temperatures, which are unusual but not unprecedented. Alaska's buildings are not equipped for such heat, and fires can exacerbate the issue by trapping heat indoors and limiting fresh air intake.
