šØ Abstract
Starting from the 2026/27 academic year, all pupils in England whose families receive Universal Credit will be eligible for free school meals. This change, following pressure from campaigners, is expected to benefit over half a million pupils and lift around 100,000 children out of poverty. The Education Secretary, Bridget Phillipson, highlighted this as a step toward tackling child poverty.
