💨 Abstract
Labour Together proposed a mandatory digital identity scheme called 'BritCard' for Britons, accessible via a GOV.UK Wallet app. This digital ID would simplify checks for employers, landlords, banks, and immigration, potentially reducing visa overstayers and benefit fraud. The BritCard would confirm whether holders have the right to work or rent, include driving licenses, and perhaps access passports, NHS services, and National Insurance numbers.
