💨 Abstract
In 2004, Jeanna Giese, a 15-year-old from Wisconsin, contracted rabies after being bitten by a bat. Despite the disease's typically fatal outcome, Dr. Rodney Willoughby induced a coma to suppress her brain function, giving her immune system a chance to fight the virus. Jeanna spent 11 weeks in the hospital and two years in therapy to recover.
