💨 Abstract

A massive wildfire is threatening the Greek island of Chios, combining three initial blazes into one large fire fueled by strong winds. Dozens of residents have evacuated, with more expected to follow. All local firefighters are deployed, supplemented by 90 from the mainland, along with aerial support. The fire endangers woodland and farmland, impacting local livelihoods, particularly mastiha production. Climate change is exacerbating the frequency and size of such fires in Greece.
