💨 Abstract
The ambitious $6 billion eco-friendly 'Akon City' project in Senegal, envisioned by singer Akon, has been scrapped. The city, intended as a tech-forward hub for African-Americans and other black communities, was to feature renewable energy and a cryptocurrency called Akoin. Despite initial progress, funding, legal, and construction issues led to its abandonment. Only a partially finished reception building exists on the 800-hectare site.
