💨 Abstract

Eight healthy babies in the UK were born using a three-person IVF technique, pioneered by a team from Newcastle, to prevent mitochondrial diseases. The technique, called Pronuclear Transfer (PNT), involves using an egg from the mother, sperm from the father, and a donor egg free from disease. The babies, now free from mitochondrial DNA diseases, will be monitored at 18 months and five years of age.
