💨 Abstract

In the Balkans, intense wildfires fueled by a 44°C heatwave and drought have ravaged Turkey, Greece, and Bulgaria, causing over a dozen deaths and tens of thousands of evacuations. In Turkey, fires threaten Bursa, with 3,500 evacuated and 17 fatalities since June. Greece faces 50 fires near Athens and on several islands, with Turkey and Bulgaria also struggling with burns across the region.
