💨 Abstract

An 8.8-magnitude earthquake struck off Petropavlovsk, Kamchatka Peninsula, Russia, triggering tsunami warnings across the Pacific. Waves up to 13 feet submerged parts of Severo-Kurilsk; a state of emergency was declared. Alerts issued in over a dozen countries, including the U.S., Japan, and Peru. Seismic activity and aftershocks continue, causing fear and confusion in coastal towns. Japan evacuated Fukushima nuclear plants.
