đ¨ Abstract
In the UK, humid weather and poorly ventilated homes exacerbate the heatwave effects this summer. Air conditioning is an option, but it's costly, energy-intensive, and not always environmentally friendly. John Small, an eco performance specialist, suggests considering passive cooling methods like shading, ventilation, and fans first. Fans cost much less to run and can manage heat effectively with smart ventilation. Air-to-air heat pumps are efficient alternatives but designing homes to minimize heat gain remains the most sustainable option.
