💨 Abstract
Due to a surge in shoplifting, Tesco in Seven Kings, London, has placed chocolate bars in secure plastic cases that staff must unlock at checkout. This measure, while unusual, is not new and has been used in some European stores. Other retailers like Sainsbury’s have also implemented similar security measures for various items. Shoplifting has reached record highs, with over 530,000 incidents reported in the year up to March 2025.
