💨 Abstract

Janine Kazmi, 38, was paralyzed after her ex-partner, Barry Shankly, 45, pushed her over a bannister for refusing a New Year's kiss. The attack occurred two months after Janine ended their abusive relationship. Shankly was convicted and sentenced to 14 years in prison. Janine, now a peer support worker, advocates for domestic abuse survivors to speak out.
