Eight U.S. lawmakers, led by Jim McGovern, have written to India's Ambassador to the U.S., urging a fair trial for Umar Khalid, detained for over five years under the UAPA in connection with the North East Delhi riots. They met Khalid's parents and expressed concern over his prolonged detention without trial, calling for adherence to international legal standards. Newly sworn-in New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani also expressed support for Khalid.
