💨 Abstract
This article discusses the ancient Indian political systems of autocracies (monarchies) and gana-rajyas (republics) in the Gangetic Plains, dating back to the 7th century BCE. The article focuses on the Maha-janapada republics, particularly the Vrijjis and the Mallas, and their conflict with the autocratic Maha-janapada of Magadha.
