Indian Grandmaster Nihal Sarin finished second at the Asian Individual Open Chess Championship, securing a spot in the World Chess Cup. He defeated Bardiya Daneshvar of Iran in the final round, both finishing with 7 points but Daneshvar won the title on better tiebreak. L R Srihari became India's 86th Grandmaster, and G B Harshwardhan also achieved a GM norm.
