💨 Abstract

At a forum in Beijing between China and Latin American and Caribbean countries, Haiti's foreign minister and a diplomat from Saint Lucia, both Taiwan allies, were present. China, which views Taiwan as its territory, has been increasing pressure on Taiwan's diplomatic relations. Taiwan has formal ties with only 12 nations, including Haiti and Saint Lucia. China welcomed the participation of these countries, while Taiwan rejects China's sovereignty claims and asserts its right to maintain diplomatic relations.
