💨 Abstract
Edward Kieswetter, the commissioner of the South African Revenue Service (SARS), is preparing to step down in 2026 after his extended term. Appointed in 2019, Kieswetter inherited a troubled organization and has since focused on rebuilding SARS and enhancing its technological capabilities. Despite challenges and controversies, SARS has achieved notable successes, such as processing six million auto-assessments in 2025.
