💨 Abstract
The article discusses calls for South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) grant recipients and government employees to be exempt from tax. In 2024/2025, R1.1 trillion in tax revenue went to SASSA beneficiaries and government employees, 23% of which came from income tax and VAT. Approximately 45% of the population receives government grants, making this the second highest budget expenditure.
