💨 Abstract
Several retired Springbok rugby players, including Adriaan Richter, have faced financial hardships. Richter, a 1995 World Cup champion, sold his medal and trophy to cover bills due to unemployment. He also sold his car and matchday jerseys. Similarly, Marthinus "Tinus" Linee sold his rugby memorabilia to pay medical bills before his death. Naas Botha's estate was sequestrated due to unpaid mortgage debt.
