💨 Abstract
South Africa's TV licence system is set to be replaced by 2026 due to high avoidance rates and financial struggles at the SABC. A device-neutral household levy, collected by SARS, is proposed as an alternative. This levy would apply to all households, with potential exemptions for some, and is expected to generate more revenue than the current system. The exact cost and final details are yet to be determined, with public consultation expected early next year.
