đź’¨ Abstract
Large numbers of dead shellfish have been washing up on the West Coast of South Africa, likely due to a harmful algal bloom (HAB) producing paralytic shellfish poisoning (PSP) neurotoxins. The Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment has warned the public not to consume any shellfish from affected areas, as they pose significant health risks. The department is monitoring the situation and urges the public to avoid collecting or eating shellfish until further notice.
