💨 Abstract
Great Wall Motor (GWM) is exploring options to establish a manufacturing presence in South Africa after losing out to Chery for Nissan’s Rosslyn plant. GWM is considering plant-sharing, contract assembly, or acquiring an existing facility, with discussions ongoing with Mercedes-Benz for potential use of its East London plant. GWM aims to strengthen its 5% market share by producing models locally, possibly the EC15, to compete with Chery's cost advantages.
