💨 Abstract

On August 8, the U.S. imposed 30% tariffs on various South African exports, including steel, citrus, and automotive parts. This move followed a telephonic discussion between Presidents Cyril Ramaphosa and Donald Trump. The tariffs, expected to slightly impact South Africa's economic growth, aim to shift U.S. trade balances. Some exports, like copper and pharmaceuticals, are exempt from the new tariffs, and both nations are discussing further trade negotiations.
