đź’¨ Abstract
Zohran Mamdani, a 33-year-old born in Uganda, educated in Cape Town, and later a New York state assemblyman, has become the Democratic candidate for New York City mayor. His victory in the primary election was surprising, as he is a self-declared democratic socialist that defeated more prominent candidates. Mamdani advocates for affordable housing, higher taxes on the wealthy, and free public services.
