💨 Abstract
In a significant legal defeat, Australia's most decorated living war veteran, Ben Roberts-Smith, lost his appeal against a civil court ruling that found him responsible for unlawfully killing four Afghans during his service. The three federal court judges upheld the 2023 decision that the accusations, published in 2018, were substantially true. Roberts-Smith, a former Special Air Service Regiment corporal, has not faced criminal charges but could still appeal to the High Court.
