💨 Abstract
In June 2025, Harvard researcher Kseniia Petrova was argued over in a court whether she smuggled biological materials into the U.S. Petrova, a Russian-born scientist, was accused of not declaring frog embryo samples obtained from a French lab. Although Petrova claimed she was unaware of the declaration requirement, federal officials alleged she intended to smuggle the embryos. “The frog embryo is an animal” said Petrova's lawyer.
