💨 Abstract
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis plans to open a second immigration detention facility at the Baker Correctional Institution, west of Jacksonville, with an initial capacity of 1,300 beds, possibly expanding to 2,000. This comes as a federal judge reviews the state's first detention center in the Everglades, nicknamed "Alligator Alcatraz." DeSantis cites a demand to support President Donald Trump’s immigration policies.
