💨 Abstract
On August 5, 2025, Detroit voters will select from nine candidates to replace outgoing mayor Mike Duggan. Duggan, who oversaw Detroit's recovery from bankruptcy and led significant urban renewal, is not seeking reelection as he pursues a gubernatorial campaign. Council President Mary Sheffield and former council member Saunteel Jenkins are among the contenders, with either potentially becoming the city's first female mayor.
