💨 Abstract

In response to Republicans redrawing legislative maps to secure their House majority, some Democrats are reconsidering their support for nonpartisan redistricting commissions. These commissions, which manage the once-a-decade task of adjusting congressional and legislative districts, limit parties' ability to manipulation districts in their favor. While Democrats have traditionally favored this model, they now face challenges as Republicans in states like Texas reshape congressional maps mid-decade.
