💨 Abstract
On July 16, 2025, a stolen Cessna 172 caused the temporary closure of the airspace at Vancouver International Airport. The aircraft, used for flight training, took off from Victoria and flew towards Vancouver, circling as air traffic control redirected other flights. A Boeing 737 from WestJet was instructed to abort its landing due to the Cessna’s proximity. The stolen plane landed safely, and the sole occupant was arrested.
