💨 Abstract

After losing multiple partners, 80-year-old Sandi Mitchell moved into an independent living community to combat loneliness and depression. Loneliness in older adults is a significant health risk, linked to cognitive decline, heart disease, and earlier death. Recognizing the signs of loneliness, such as mood changes and withdrawal, is crucial. Supporting a lonely parent involves listening, establishing routines, encouraging engagement, and considering senior living communities.
