💨 Abstract
The U.S. Supreme Court's 2019 decision in Rucho v. Common Cause allowed extreme partisan redistricting. The court, led by Chief Justice John Roberts, ruled 5-4 that federal judges couldn't review such gerrymandering for constitutional violations. The dissenting judges warned this decision threatened free and fair elections, but Roberts argued it was a political issue beyond the court's purview.
