💨 Abstract
On May 16, 2025, Brazil's Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock confirmed the country's first bird flu outbreak in commercial poultry, found in the southern state of Rio Grande do Sul. The ministry initiated a contingency plan to eliminate the disease and maintain food security. China halted poultry imports from Brazil for 60 days. The ministry reassured that the disease is not transmitted through the consumption of poultry and the risk of human infection is low.
