💨 Abstract
Bernadette Dugasse, born on the Chagos Islands, was forced to leave as a toddler. Now 68, she lives in the U.K. and has been fighting to return to her homeland. The British and U.S. governments evicted Chagossians to build a military base. Despite the U.K. transferring sovereignty to Mauritius, Chagossians like Dugasse feel their chance to return is fading.
