💨 Abstract

An explosion at a chemical plant in Weifang, Shandong province, China, killed five, injured 19, and left six missing. The blast, which damaged nearby buildings and released hazardous smoke, occurred at Gaomi Youdao Chemical Co., a producer of pesticides and medical chemicals. Over 230 firefighters responded, and environmental teams were dispatched to monitor pollution. The plant had previously been cited for safety risks but was praised for addressing hazards.
